The simplest gift to make to Crossroads is an outright gift of cash from your checking account. However, another very popular and effective option is to transfer assets to be held in a donor-advised fund (DAF) at a Christian charitable organization, such as Barnabas Foundation, a ministry partner of Crossroads Prison Ministries.
A donor-advised fund is a charitable giving vehicle created for the purpose of managing charitable donations on behalf of an organization, family or individual. A donor-advised fund offers the opportunity to create an easy-to-establish, low-cost, flexible vehicle for your charitable giving as an alternative to giving directly to Crossroads or creating a private foundation. You enjoy administrative convenience, cost savings and tax advantages by making your gift through the fund.
Barnabas Foundation, or any other organization administering your donor-advised fund, then makes a distribution to Crossroads and your other favorite ministries based on your advice and timing or the advice and timing of family members you have named to be successors once you have gone home to be with the Lord. You can also make anonymous gifts to your favorite ministries.
Since your gift is to Crossroads, a qualified charitable organization, you receive the maximum tax benefits available for your gifts. You can establish the donor-advised fund during your lifetime and transfer assets to it whenever you desire. It can also receive assets from your estate upon your passing. You can change the beneficiaries and/or percentages of distribution at any time.
